Frequently asked questions:

What does a counsellor do?
Counsellors provide support to people experiencing mental or emotional difficulties by helping them identify and work through their issues, reach their own resolutions, and develop coping strategies to address their problems.
What kinds of problems can
counselling help me with?
Counselling can help with a range of issues and problems. Many people seek counselling for a specific issue, such as bereavement or relationship problems, however, counselling can also help with more generalised, long-standing issues such as depression, anxiety, and low confidence. Some people begin therapy with only a vague sense that something in their lives isn't quite right, and counselling can help them to explore the reasons behind this and implement positive changes.
what's the difference between
counselling and psychotherapy?
Many people use the words counselling and psychotherapy interchangeably, however, some people use the term counselling when referring to briefer therapy working on a specific concern or issue, and psychotherapy when referring to longer term therapy taking a deeper look into an individual's emotional difficulties and patterns of behaviour. I offer both counselling and psychotherapy online.
What kind of counselling do you
provide and which is best for me?
I work as an integrative practitioner, drawing upon several theoretical approaches to best suit your individual needs. During our initial consultation together, we will discuss your needs and determine whether therapy is right for you as well as whether we are the right fit for working together.
What happens at an initial
consultation?
The aim of the initial consultation will be for us to think together about your needs and what you would like to gain from therapy. During this appointment, I will also address any questions or concerns you might have about the counselling process. If you decide you'd like to begin working together, we will then decide a day and time of the week that works for you.

what is your hourly rate?
My standard hourly rate is £45, however, I have a limited number of concessionary spaces available to students and those who are unwaged or of low-income.
What are the benefits of online therapy?
There are many benefits to online therapy, including:
  • Accessibility: Online therapy can be beneficial for clients who may find it challenging to get out to see a therapist in person. This might be due to a disability that makes travel and accessibility to the therapist's location difficult, living in an isolated location making journeys to a therapist expensive and time consuming or caring responsibilities limiting time away from home.
  • Flexibility: Online therapy offers the opportunity to attend sessions from the comfort of your own home and can also offer the continuity of therapy when traveling. All that is required is a private space for the duration of your session, your own computer, tablet or smartphone and a reliable internet connection.
  • Compatibility: A sound therapist-client relationship is essential to the counselling process. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a therapist you would prefer to work with, particularly if you live in an isolated location or an area with limited therapists to choose from. Working online gives you access to a wide range of therapists and theoretical approaches, allowing you to find a therapist with whom you are compatible with.
Is online therapy really effective?
Multiple studies have concluded that online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face therapy, providing the therapist is competent in working online and the client is suitable for online therapy (possessing the required technology, having adequate computer-literacy skills, etc.) I am fully qualified to work online and hold a certificate in online counselling from the Academy for Online Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am passionate about working online and the accessibility and flexibility it provides for clients who might otherwise struggle to attend therapy.
I have specific knowledge in the following areas:
ANXIETY
ADDICTION
COMPLEX TRAUMA
DEPRESSION
AUTISM
EATING DISORDERS
